Don't you hate storing air hoses? They are always tangled and in the way. The catch on everything and take up a lot of space. I've been winding my hose up my hand into a neat spool for years, and it's always a frustrating task. That's why I built this hose reel.
The hose reel is a great shop project. Sure you can buy one, but this is way more fun. Plus look how cool it looks! Most people don't need industrial metal hose reels. I don't use mine everyday, so one made from plywood is more than sufficient. There's lots of moving parts in typical retractable reels, so with this design if anything were ever to break or wear out all the components are easy to replace since you made them to begin with.
This is one of those projects that I should have done years ago. It's so nice being able to wind up the air hose with ease and not worry about where to store it so it doesn't get tangled.
This is a great project from beginner to expert woodworkers. I designed this reel on the computer which allows me to share the design with others. A full step-by-step set of plans are available in my store, so check those out if you want to end the life of hose frustration.
