DIY Window Planter Box

Updated: Mar 15, 2020

Happy Spring!

The inspiration for this planter box came from an Air Conditioner. I wanted a way to install a window planter box without damaging the window or screwing into anything. This one attaches to the window much like an air conditioner. It can be removed and installed easily and still allows for the use of the screen and window sash.

I designed this window planter to be used in our bedroom windows which gets the morning sun. I wanted to be able to still use the screen and close the window if needed, especially if raining. Additionally, I built in a slope to the platform, so if it does rain the water will run away from the window instead of inside.

The materials used in this project:

  • 1/2" Plywood

  • 1x2 Cedar

  • 1/4" Dowels

  • 1-1/4" Decking Screws

  • Glue

  • Paint

Good luck building your own!
